Used Infiniti cars overview

Infiniti was Nissan’s attempt to ‘do a Lexus’ and create a high-end brand that could sell cars to premium buyers, tempting them out of their BMWs and Mercedes. It almost worked — and a bltiz of publicity involving Red Bull F1 sponsorship, and the fact that the compact QX30 was actually built in Sunderland — bought Infiniti some kudos, but it never quite gelled with the British car buying public, and Infiniti upped-sticks in 2020. It remains on sale in America, where it’s been a modest success.

That means that the youngest used Infiniti is now five years old, but the good news is that most of the models — QX30 apart — were based on pretty solid Nissan engines and mechanical setups, so the bargain pricing for models such as the sporty Q50 saloon, or the Q60 coupe, or the FX SUV (apparently F1 driver Sebastian Vettel had a hand in its development) can still leave you with a car that will have plenty of life left in it. The QX30 — oddly based on Mercedes mechanical bits, thanks to a tie-up between the two brands — is a less good bet, and not as reliably robust.

FAQs

It is if what you want is a Lexus-style sports saloon or a high-end SUV at a bargain-bucket price. Nissan parts mean they’re generally reliable, and the Q50 saloon was really good to drive.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag. The likes of the Q50 saloon and Q60 Coupe were good to drive and looked smart, while the QX70 and FX SUVs were big and roomy. None quite has the overall quality of a similar Lexus, however, and the odd-looking QX30 wasn’t anything special even though it was quite good to drive.

Broadly speaking a used Infiniti should be reliable, thanks to largely solid Nissan-based mechanical bits, but with the youngest UK cars now five years old at minimum, expect to have to do some maintenance work.
